Last chance to pick your chip champion

The hunt for the best providers of the nation's favourite takeaway in mid-Somerset reaches its final stages today.

To mark National Chip Week from February 20-26 we want our readers to tell us where the best chips in mid-Somerset can be found – and those chippies which have been collecting nominations for the best chip shop have until 5pm today to get their votes in.

The Central Somerset Gazette winner will take part in a fry-off with the best chips in Shepton Mallet, Wells and the Cheddar Valley.

Last year the four finalists were Steve's Fish and Chips in Shepton Mallet, R&T's in Street, the Pound Inn at Coxley and Tuckers in Cheddar Gorge.

This year chippy customers have been getting behind their favourites in massive numbers – but all will come to nothing if those votes are not in on time.

We have had nominations for posh restaurants, gastro-pubs and burger vans, but it is on the counters of our chip shops that the battle is fiercest.
