Visiting Shepton Mallet on the way to Glastonbury, or perhaps 'popping in to Town' for a little relief from the insanity and mud?  In Shepton Mallet, there are plenty of places where you can get great food, use a clean toilet and get a properly cold drink.

Shepton Mallet has a number of Pubs which do superb food, some great takeaways and a high quality Indian Restaurant.

The Bell

The Bell is a historic place which is as loud and busy as you would expect it to be in the middle of an industrial and market town.  There is often live music or Kareoke here and while a good time isn't guaranteed, it is certainly likely.

Visit if you like... good food, chatty people, and often, a party atmosphere.

The Swan

Further down in Town Street we have The Swan.  The swan is a friendly pub which like the Bell can also get quite lively, although it is more likely to be a place for some more relaxed time.

Visit if you like... real ale and settling in for a few.  The Sunday lunch is pretty good too, Im told.

The Wine Vaults

The Wine Vaults is back up past the Bell, towards the traffic lights.  The Wine Vaults is a generally civilized place with nice decor.  Comfortable seating means you can make the most of the big screen TV.

Visit if you like.... relaxing in front the TV or chatting with friends.  The Guinness comes recommended!

The Mughal Empire

Our high-quality Indian Restaurant The Mughal Empire has been unanimously reccomended by our Facebook followers and by pretty much everyone else I have spoken to.  It is indeed a firm local favorite with both the food and the service being getting the highest praise.  If you order a takeaway, be prepared to wait.  Just how good this place is isn't a secret, and the food is freshly cooked.  Worth waiting for, if you can!

Visit if you like.... great service, great food and high quality Indian cuisine

The Kings Arms

Down in Legg Square, near the old 'Babycham' factory (Gaymers), there is the Kings Arms (or 'Dusthole').  It's not all dirty and dusty, is the first thing you should know.  It got it's name back in the quarrying days when the passing wagons would kick up the dust and the workers would often stop by for a pint of ale or cider.  These days it is a quality pub, and although you pay for what you get, it is most certainly worth it.

Visit if you like... picture postcard pubs, real ale, great food.

The King William

The King William or 'Billy' is out at West Shepton, and if you were walking from the Glastonbury Festival site, this is the first 'place of interest' you would see.  This is a lively pub with a pool table and a friendly buzzing atmosphere.

Visit if you like... socializing, playing pool and sinking a beer with a natter about football.

The Charlton

At the Charlton crossroads, there is the Charlton Inn.  This is buzzing pub and is great for chilling out with friends.  There is a big screen TV, smokers are well catered for and the pool table is usually busy.

Visit if you like... Sports on TV, a brilliant mix of the old and new, with arguably the best pork scratchings in town!

The Highwayman

The Highwayman sits on the outer edge of Shepton Mallet, at Cannards Grave.  This is a family food pub with a hotel attached but it also offers live entertainment on Fridays and also hosts pub quizzes.

Visit if you like... to eat out with your family in a relaxed setting

The Thatch Cottage Inn

The Thatch Cottage Inn is at Charlton, on the East side of Town.  The reason for it's name is obvious and the building alone is worth a visit.  The menu is very good indeed and there are a good selection of wines, or if you prefer a comprehensive range of other drinks.

Visit if you like... Old meets new decor, interesting buildings and slightly-finer-than-your-usual-pub dining.

The Horsehoe

The Horseshoe Inn is a modernized pub with two bars, one large, one small. The 'shoe' has a reputation for its friendly atmosphere and good beers.  They even host a beer festival once a year!

Visit if you like... a really friendly drink and a place that's not your run of the mill boozer!

The Shrubbery

The Shrubbery Hotel offers a full menu but also has a regular bar.  The building is historic and has beautiful gardens.

Visit if you like... a smart venue and superb quality food!

Blostins

Blostins is a small but brilliant restaurant.  The food is excellent and the service is only semi formal and very friendly.

Visit if you like... haut cuisine.

Bowlish House

Bowlish House is arguably Shepton Mallet's flagship restaurant and is the alternative to Blostins for something really special.  Think more grandiose and unappologetically refined.  Set in a beautiful Manor House, the menu is very much a special occasion affair for most of us.

Visit if you like... really special meals and the finest of everything!
