Shepton Mallet Corsa Thefts: Suspects Arrested

Following a report that thieves around Shepton Mallet had been targeting Vauxhall Corsa cars a Police report states that two men from the Frome and Shepton Mallet area have been arrested.

Shepton Mallet Corsa Thefts: 2 Arrests made
â¨â¨At just after 8pm on Wednesday February 16 a Vauxhall Corsa was reported stolen from Lower Keyford in Frome. The vehicle was later spotted and stopped by Police in Frome, and two men ran from the car. Following a short pursuit one man was caught and the other one ran into woods but was hunted down by a police dog.â¨
Both men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. One of the suspects, who is aged 20, has been released on bail pending further enquiries and the other, aged 16, remains in custody.
â¨â¨In a separate incident, two men have been arrested for burglary and thefts of two other vehicles. At 9.30pm on Tuesday February 15th, a VW Caddy Van was stolen from Cork Street in Frome. The vehicle was later seen by Police in Evercreech, and when it stopped two men ran off. A 27-year-old man from Frome was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was taken into custody and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.â¨â¨
At 12.30pm on Wednesday February 16th, a second man was arrested in Nightingale Avenue in Frome on suspicion of burglary. He is suspected of being involved in the theft of the VW van as well as a black Honda Jazz stolen later that night in Evercreech near to where the VW was abandoned. The Honda was recovered in Stonebridge Drive, a short distance away. The 19-year-old local man was interviewed in custody and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
â¨â¨Detective Sergeant Tim Gillingham said: "In the past 48 hours we have recovered three stolen vehicles and arrested four people we suspect of being involved in the theft of cars from the area. We are really pleased with this result and believe it will have a positive impact on crime throughout the Frome and Shepton Mallet area."
