Hi - welcome to the site. The Crown has been through a few difficult times. The last I heard was that it is shut and for sale, but I am happy for anyone to update me on that. If you liked the Crown, then these days you might like the Swan (was Stumbles), The Bell or The Vic. All of these have heaps of atmosphere and are lively in the way the Crown was (and Im sure will be again sometime soon). I did a short piece on the pubs in Town a while ago. It was tough researching it, but someone had to do it! http://tinyurl.com/3y5l6fz

Sad to hear the Crown has closed it had lots of character and with Jack and Dixie the best Landlords I have ever come across...I left Shepton 20 years ago and I still miss the place
I used to go to the other pubs mentioned also the Field inn was also a good pub.
Nice to see Shepton on the telly..... I hope it gives the town a much deserved boost. I used to go the market every Friday for the fresh meat, fish and veg,...and it was also a good meeting place.
A lot better food than "Tesco" which I personally think it has ruined all the wee local shops in the villages in Somerset.

Yep, good ol' Jack! The market is still really good (some weeks better than others) and I think the town being dead is overplayed a bit. There are some issues (there is a bit of a debate going on about parking under the story about The High Street program) but the town is growing fast, events are well attended and there seems to be a lot of passion behind the desire to improve the image and perceptions of the town.
