Good light lunch
Had a light lunch at The Thatch and really enjoyed it. I was with friends and there was something that each of us liked (and more) to choose from. The manager seemed genuinely interested in our experience as well. I understand it is under new ownership, so it's good that he's getting to know how things like the menu are going down with people. Recommended for its lovely setting and nice food.

Check it out
This place does some interesting stuff and it's all cooked beautifully. It does take a little bit longer than your average pit stop, but I guess that's because it's popular and the food is made with care. The staff are always friendly, the place itself is inviting and you never feel rushed - I've spent many an hour lounging in the garden with a baguette. Check it out.

Lovely food
Great food. For lunch, I see that if you are in a rush, you can order ahead, and even have baguettes to take back to your office (more expensive than the bakers, but up a few notches in quality terms).
Watch out for wasps if you try the garden (not that we will have much cause for beer gardens for a few months now...boo hoo!). -
Beautiful hotel and restaurant
The Thatched Cottage Inn in Charlton Street, Shepton Mallet is a beautiful hotel and restaurant that serves some extremely delicious food. Its a great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, with their menu of tempting dishes cooked with fresh, top quality ingredients bound to make it a meal to remember.

Good food, order ahead if you're in a hurry though!
Ive had some really nice (and one or two quite odd) meals at the Thatch recently. For example: Chicken drumsticks, veggie kebabs (extra, as they were out of the pork ones that usually accompany the 'dish'(!)) with chips. Random as that sounds, it was actually lovely.
The more usual suspects (their excellent home made burger and a lasagna that I regret not having tried) are available, along with an excellent baguette selection makes up a great lunchtime selection. The service is always friendly and the surroundings are pleasant.
I have slightly marked this place down due to the occasional times that meals have taken way too long, or on a couple of occasions where one meal has taken so much longer than the others that one person has the pleasure of everyone else watching!
Generally a really pleasant place though, and somewhere I would willingly try for a nice evening meal - not that Ive tried the 'full' (as opposed to lunch) restaurant menu yet.
