Those of you with Children at Waterloo Road School (Shepton Mallet Infants), or who have cause to drive past it, will notice new railings outside.

The new railings at Shepton Mallet Infants School
The new railings were erected by Mendip District Council’s Highways Department following a request made by PCSO Guy Drury. PCSO Drury contacted Jeff Bunting from ‘Highway’s’. A complaint had been made that children could come out of the main school gate with nothing to stop them running into the road.
During a visit to the site Jeff Bunting agreed that railings were badly needed, and immediately placed an order for the work to be carried out.
The school were delighted when the railings were fitted, and contacted both PSCO Dury and Highways to thank them for their efforts, saying that many parents have commented on how much safer they feel with the railings in place.
Bev, a parent with children at the School said, “The railings are a great idea, especially with excited children running out of school - they cant run straight out into the road now, which I am surprised they have not in the past.” “Its one more thing to add safety to the school children”, she add’s, “now with the crossing patrol man (which has been long awaited) it’s all a lot safer than 12 months ago. I just hope drivers show more consideration for this lollypop man than they did with the lady we had doing it, or we could be without one again!”
Are there other safety points which could be addressed around your Child’s school, or just generally in the town? We would love to hear your gripes, and maybe see if we can highlight them to those with the power to do something about them?
